Doll Body Comparison: Pullip Type-3 | Pullip Type-4 | Obitsu 27 Soft Bust (Small)

It took me a while to start this post because I at first thought that I had to collect more knowledge about different types of 1/6 doll bodies. But then it hit me: Why not share, what I have learned so far and my experience with handling Pullip type-3 and type-4 bodies, while also sharing, why I like to use 27cm Soft Bust bodies by Obitsu on Pullips too?! So let’s get started!

Disclaimer: Due to this being a post that is comparing three different types of doll bodies, there is obviously some doll nudity going on.

Pullip Type-3 & Type-4 Body next to Obitsu 27 SB-S BodyThese are the three bodies I am comparing today from the front. The Pullip type-3 body is on the very left, the Pullip type-4 body is in the middle and the 27cm SB (short for ‘soft bust’) is on the very right. Pullip’s type-3 stock body was discontinued in 2009 and has since been replaced by the type-4, which is still going strong today. Both are made out of plastic and are not sold separately by the manufacturer. Quite contrary, you however do can purchase a wide variety of doll bodies by Obitsu separately and this 27cm SB body in a size small (there is also a M and L size for the bust) is one of the most popular ones to rebody Pullip dolls on. Although I do have spotted the trend that rebodying onto an Obitsu is not as popular as it once was. The Obitsu’s material is vinyl and you can decide between the pictured natural colour in ‘flesh’ and a fair second choice, which is called ‘white’.

Obitsu neck pegsWith the purchase of the Obitsu, you also get four different kinds of neck pegs, which differ in thickness and are screwed on top of the Obitsu body, so that you are then able to fixate your doll’s head on the body, while still being able to move the head in a more convenient and more life-like manner. On all of the pictures of the doll bodies, the Obitsu already has the thickest neck peg on top, which was serrated in half to be ready to be put on a former type-3 Pullip. You need different neck pegs for different Pullip types, since their head mould can also differ.

Pullip Type-3 & Type-4 Body next to Obitsu 27 SB-S BodyThe backsides practically tell it all: The current Pullip type-4 body is the skinniest of them all with the least booty. The Obitsu is more voluptious and therefore not all Pullip clothing will fit onto it perfectly. The Pullip type-3 body had an incredible small waist and in general quite different proportions to the other bodies, which proportion-wise do seem similar to me. I am also happy that the current Pullip stock body doesn’t have any screws showing in the shoulder area anymore.

Pullip Type-3 & Type-4 Body next to Obitsu 27 SB-S BodyPosing your doll is so much easier nowadays: The wrists on type-3 bodies were famous for often breaking, while the doll was still new in box. I never encountered this phenomenon myself, but I also never bothered to do a lot with the type-3 hands, since they do not offer a lot of articulation. I do like the type-3 elbow and am happy that you find a similar idea on the Obitsus!

Pullip Type-3 & Type-4 Body next to Obitsu 27 SB-S BodyWhen it comes to posing options of the legs, the Obitsu is my favourite! My dolls never look comfier sitting down, when they are sporting an Obitsu! If there is one thing that I would like to change on the type-4 body, it would definitely be the legs, which appear way too fragile to me and I often fear to break them. Posing them literally often gives me the creeps!

The Obitsu feet are way larger though than the two stock bodies above, so it can be a little disappointing that your prettiest Pullip shoes might not fit. My girls often have to resort to sneakers or boots.

I hope that this comparison was helpful and if you have any remaining questions, please feel free to comment below!

Thank you so much for reading!
